Water
Water is crucially important in brewing coffee. According to the SCAA, water you use to brew coffee should be clean and odor free, clear in color, and contain no chlorine. That's why filtered water is highly recommended.
Grind size
Here's a general guideline for grind sizes:
- Coarse Grind: French press, cold brew
- Medium-Coarse Grind: Chemex, hand drip coffee
- Medium Grind: Flat-bottomed drip machines, AeroPress
- Fine Grind: Espresso, Moka pot
Espresso Machine
Following 1:2 ratio, use 18-22g coffee beans, yield around 20-30 secs to extract 36-44g Espresso
Latte: Add 150ml milk
Tonic Espresso: Add 150ml Tonic and ice cube then pour espresso on top
Filter
20g coffee beans with 300ml water
Iced pour over
Following 1:10 ratio, 20g coffee beans with 200ml water
Cold brew
1:8 ratio, 36g coffee beans : 288ml water, 12-24 hours
